LOUDON, N.H. -- It may not seem like it if you look out your window, but New Hampshire has received a normal amount of snow this year.

Almost 39 inches of snow has fallen in Concord, but the problem for those who rely on snow for business or winter events is that very little of it is left.

Last week, crews in Lisbon, N.H., trucked in snow from piles in nearby parking lots to get enough snow for vintage snowmobile race.

Loudon is getting ready for a major snowmobile event on Feb. 20, but there's not much snow on the ground. The New Hampshire Motor Speedway is planning to hold the Sno Bowl, but organizers said they may have to make some effort to ensure that the event can go on as scheduled.

"We were in good shape until about a week and a half ago, when we got nearly 3 inches of rain, and that washed away most of the winter buildup of snow," said Jerry Gappens of New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Gappens said the track is ready if no snow arrives.

"But we have a backup plan, so if Mother Nature's not going to help us, we've got manmade technology that'll get us over the hump," he said.

The speedway brought in four giant snow-making machines. They need to run 100 hours in order to make enough snow for the snowmobiles. But it also has to be cold enough, 28 degrees or lower, so that has also limited the track's ability to prepare.

Gappens said that whatever has to be done will be done, and the racers will never know the difference.

"The good thing now is the facility is ready for parking. The lots are clear," he said. "So, there are some advantages of not having snow on certain parts of the facility."

Another event affected by the lack of snow on the ground is the Lakes Region Sled Dog Club race that was scheduled for this weekend. The event will likely be moved to the beginning of March.
