JEFFERSON — North Country Mushers, in conjunction with the
Waumbek-Methna Snowmobile Club, will host a sled dog race at 9 a.m. on Saturday
March 12.
Carl Brown of Whitefield, who owns and operates C B Sleds, will serve as Race
Marshall. The race will feature a 30-mile loop on scenic multi-use snowmobile
trails, starting and ending at the Pond of Safety trailhead off Ingerson Road.
There are two classes of competition offered in the race: a sixdog class and an
eight-to-10 dog class. Sled dog teams from across New England and upstate New
York are planning to participate in the race. Spectators are encouraged to
attend and watch this exciting event.
The best viewing times will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. as teams prepare and start
the race, and then again from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. as teams reach
the finish line.
The Club asks that all spectators please leave their pet dogs at home or in
their vehicles, however, as they would be a distraction to the sled dog teams.
To find trailhead parking, turn onto Ingerson Road on the north side of Route 2,
directly across from Six Gun City. Drive on Ingerson Road approximately one mile
until the road sharply curves to the left. Go straight between the two camps on
Pond of Safety Road.
The parking lot will be on your left after the last camp. Do not block these
camp-owners’ driveways. For more information, please go to the North Country
Mushers website: www.northcountrymushers.com
North Country Mushers (NCM) was established in 2006 with the goal of encouraging
the growth and understanding of the sport of dog mushing in Northern New
England.
The club promotes and sanctions various sled dog races each season, organizes
social and fundraising events, and works to ensure the safe and ethical
treatment of all participants.
