Nash Stream Management Plan Under Review

Camp Owners Could Pay Higher Fees

May 28, 2009

To all Nash Stream and other State of NH Camp lease holders;

The State of NH DRED is in the process of reviewing all lease arrangements to see if any more $$$ can be made on the leases. The Nash Stream lease is the first one to come up for renewal since HB710 passed. DRED has commissioned an real estate appraiser to reassess the lease amount to see if the lease rate is maximized.

The appraiser has figured that a three tiered lease rate would be in the best interest of DRED to maximize their income. The lowest of this tier is a $300.00 increase from the current lease rate, however there are only 6 camps in this category, the next two tiers have larger increases. Keep in mind all NH LEASE holders whether your lease is with DRED or DES your lease payments will be going up and all appraisers will base their reports on this report for NASH Stream as a starting point.

Overall this tier system nearly doubles DREDS income off these leases. The NASH Stream lease rates and any subsequent increases are detailed and controlled by the " NASH Stream forest management plan " so for DRED to achieve the increase they are aiming for they have to open the management plan for public input, this will mean that any interested party, organization, individual or group gets to voice their opinion about any and all management practices within Nash Stream Forest.

Since it will not be possible to complete this in time for the lease renewal date DRED will be issuing 1-year temp. leases for the upcoming lease year. The Nash Stream Forest camp-owners have a small association that is active in working with DRED on this issue however there are only a few camp-owners in this association, now would be a great time for all you non-member camp owners to join our association and make whatever contribution you can help us out.

Once the management plan is open to public input many things can come up for review ie; snowmobile trail location, atv trail usage and location or lack thereof. Since Trout Unlimited has a vested interest in the area of the stream not all input may be in the best interest of snowmobilers or other current users of the area.

There are many other camp-owners out there with State leases that are going to be effected by the outcome of this example that is being set now. I am not sure what kind of associations may be in existence but you will what to be paying attention as this will affect you.

If you have any questions about this I can be emailed @ fbfillmore@gsinet.net, let me know what you think or if you want to get involved.
