WMRR Member Wins Easter Seals Award

July 19, 2008

On Saturday July 19th,  about three dozen snowmobilers met at Camp Sno-Mo in Gilmanton, NH for the annual “Thank You” BBQ put on by the Easter Seals staff.  The BBQ is a chance for the snowmobilers who contribute to the camp to meet the kids and the counselors who enjoy this camp every summer.

During the opening remarks, Camp Director Rob Kelly announced that Kate Gomes, of the White Mountain Ridge Runners was the recipient of the annual Easter Seals award for her dedication and commitment to Camp Sno-Mo.

In 2006, Kate spearheaded an effort to sell over $6,000 in luminary bags that lit the entire Ride-In parade route in Lancaster.  In 2007, Kate called dozens of donors and got them to contribute over $5,000 in merchandise to Camp Sno-Mo including communication radios for the staff, cots for the campers, a wheelchair, shower chair, duffel bags, a screen tent, window shades and many other items.

Kate’s award will be added to the Camp Sno-Mo wall of fame along with many other distinguished snowmobilers who have given freely of their time to make a difference in lives of the Easter Seals kids.
