LINCOLN – Snowmobilers from all over New Hampshire converged Saturday in Lincoln to bring more than $76,000 raised this year for Easter Seals.
The money was presented Saturday night at the 36th annual Easter Seals' Ride-In, by representatives of more than 100 Granite State snowmobile clubs. They've been riding in by snowmobile for more than three decades to benefit Camp Sno-Mo in Gilmanton Iron Works.
Throughout the year, the clubs conduct fundraising efforts, such as spaghetti suppers and bake sales. Over the past 36 years, they've raised more than $2 million.
The money will be used to send campers, ages 11-21, with disabilities and special needs to the summer camp. Easter Seals campers take part alongside Boy Scouts in a wide variety of activities, including water sports, team sports, hiking, archery, a ropes course and crafts.
"Thousands of snowmobilers across New Hampshire demonstrate their commitment to Easter Seals campers year after year through their hard work and support," said Easter Seals New Hampshire President and CEO Larry Gammon.
"We can always count on NHSA members to rally to the cause and continue to make a profound difference at Camp Sno-Mo. Their dedication is extraordinary."
Each year, the New Hampshire Union Leader sponsors awards in several categories, presented at the Ride-In.
This year's winners were, for youngest rider, Travis Hewitt, 9; youngest rider on a mini-sled, Brodie Woodburn, 2; largest club participation, Sutton Ridge Riders, with 14 members; eldest rider, Harold Ricker, 84, and longest ride to the event, 223.5 miles by the Merrimack Valley Trail Riders, based in Milford.
Easter Seals NH serves more than 25,000 children and adults throughout the state, providing services to ensure that all people with disabilities or special needs and their families have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities.
