VOLUNTEERS BUILD NEW BRIDGE ON BERLIN TRAIL

September 19, 2009

A group of seven volunteers removed some old culverts and replaced them with a Bridge on the Berlin Trail between Corridor 19 and downtown Berlin.

The dry weather over the past few weeks helped by drying up the trail in the area.

The bridge beams were built with 6" x 6" PT beams.  These beams were 16' long, but the bridge was only 13' wide, so the extra length was cut off and used to build a ramp on one side of the bridge.  The other side of the bridge used an existing embankment as a ramp up to the bridge.

Setting the beams - Wesley takes a break after helping to carry in the beams.

Installing the Decking - A process made easy with our Paslode nail gun.

Installing the Ramp - A short ramp up to the bridge was constructed using the cut-off ends of 6" x 6" beams.
A log is set along the front edge of the ramp to keep snowmobile skis from getting stuck under the decking.
