Company Ends Partnership with Balsams

DIXVILLE, N.H. (AP) -- The hospitality and entertainment firm that took over management of The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel in New Hampshire four years ago is parting ways with the owner.

Delaware North Companies is ending its partnership on June 1. The company took over management after longtime partners Steve Barba and Phil Learned retired in 2005.

Delaware North spokeswoman Mary Burick tells the New Hampshire Union Leader there should be no interruption in service.

The firm and Tillotson Corp., which has owned the Balsams since 1954, said the move was amicable.

In the weeks leading up to the 2008 New Hampshire presidential primary, the hotel underwent extensive renovation, including its famous Ballot Room, where presidential ballots are cast just after midnight on Election Day.
